Homelessness and poverty are inextricably linked. Poor people are frequently unable to pay for housing, food, childcare, health care, and education. Difficult choices must be made when limited resources cover only some of these necessities. Often it is housing, which absorbs a high proportion of income that must be dropped. Being poor means being an illness, an accident, or a paycheck away from living on the streets.

In 2005, 13.3% of the U.S. population, or 38,231,521 million people, lived in poverty. Both the poverty rate and the number of poor people have increased in recent years, up from 12.5% or 1.1 million in 2003 (U.S. Bureau of the Census, 2005). 36% of persons living in poverty are children; in fact, the 2004 poverty rate of 17.6% for children under 18 years old is significantly higher than the poverty rate for any other age group(reference nytimes).

FASTFOOD

A smiling red-haired clown in a full yellow suit, complete with oversize red shoes, pops into our heads; we salivate over the food that this figurehead peddles to all four corners of the earth.

However, when a North American logo such as McDonald’s becomes familiar to the foreign reaches of our world, synonymous with smiling Hamburgers and golden fries, it ends up representing more than simply food. ... However, its wholesome appearance as a the ideal family outing is only an exterior; each new restaurant opened, each move that this company makes .

According to The Washington Post, last year Americans spent $110 billion on fast food, more than was spent on personal computers, software, or new cars. The average American eats a hamburger three times a week.
In my opinion Fast food is a convenience to everyone as it is food you do not have to prepare.

Advertising is an action to promote selling by influencing or persuading people to buy a product. Advertising comes in variety of Medias for example, television, magazines, radios, and billboards. Some advertisement targets just specific group of people, while others are more general. However some advertisements are corruptive. They make us feel inferior, and let us “realize” that we need their products. Advertising, although comes in different forms, they all serves one main purpose, to persuade consumers. In advertising, there are three basic rhetorical appeals; ethos logos, and pathos. Ethos is form of persuasion that uses a credible source of information to convince their customer. Advertising has been one of the many methods that companies have used to broaden the market. Many companies have benefited from advertising and have increased their selling ratios. The purpose of advertising is to allow a company to communicate or introduce their product or services to the public. There are many methods of advertising to stimulate the public’s mind to attract them to a particular product or service.
Television has become one of the most popular venues for advertising because of the huge audience it reaches. The larger the audience a program draws, the higher the advertising rates are for each commercial. Programs such as “Friends”, “ER”, and “Will & Grace” have advertising rates priced above $300,000 for a 30-second spot.

She had overcome many hurdles and reached to the top of America's national T.V host.

Oprah Winfrey, a talk show host, actress, producer and philanthropist, and business woman is the chairwoman of HARPO entertainment in Chicago. She joins the elite company of Lucille Ball and Mary Pickford, as the only woman in T.V and film to own their own production studios. Through HARPO productions, she produces and hosts America's number one popular show.

Michael Jordan

When someone says the name Michael Jordan, the first thing that comes to mind is basketball, The Chicago Bulls and Nike shoes. Through the years, Michael Jordan has proved time and time again that he is the greatest basketball player ever, and by performing in this rapidly expanding sporting field, he has gained tremendous popularity throughout the world. People of all ages and from all nationalities have gathered to watch him play.
in my opinion He is a hero and a role model amongst basketball spectators.

I seem to spend a lot of time after work checking out everything on Facebook. This social networking site sends me emails about the things that people have done thereby compelling me to log in and snoop at what everyone’s doing. I upload pictures and get to see and trade pictures with others. The best thing are groups you can join. Joining has helped me reconnect with friends that I’ve not seen for years.

I have noticed many people add applications created by others (not Facebook) to add interest to their page. I myself have added the “Where have you been?” application that shows where I want to go as well as where I have gone. There’s also the Free Gifts application so people don’t have to pay to send me presents!

I am pretty good at resisting the invitations to add applications that are useless such as the Vampire application. Who wants to electronically bite someone and turn them into a vampire? What use is that?

Some people either don’t know, or don’t realize that they can customize/organize their page so it is more user friendly after adding all these applications. Applications added automatically appear on the larger, right side of the page but you can move them to the smaller left hand side of the page to make it more even and shorten your long list so people don’t have to scroll down forever and a day to write a plain old comment.

Maybe I’m not addicted but I certainly so spend a fair bit of time on there… Anyone else?

GAYS

Should gay marriages be legal?36 states have passed legislation banning gay marriages, yet the state of Vermont passed a law that allows homosexual couples the right to participate in civil unions. Some other states are also debating whether or not to allow these couples to marry.

Unfortunately, the dispute has left the United States homosexual community in an
awkward position. There are some people who think that gay people have no rights and
should never be allowed to marry. Other people believe that gay people are just like
anyone else and should enjoy the same rights and privileges as heterosexuals do. I think
that the United States should not allow these couples to marry just like any other couple.

There are many opponents of gay people as it is, and they all have their reasons to
dislike the idea of letting them get married. One of the main reasons is that the primary
purpose of marriage is procreation. Because gay couples are unable to have children, they
should not be allowed to marry,in my opinion marriage is defined as “a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.

ALCOHOL ABUSE AMONG TEENAGERS

It's very interesting that I find myself writing about something that not only is commonsense, but what is more, something that every one knows about in general but may not in particular. Alcohol use among teenagers is a serious problem and is responsible for death and injury in automobile accidents, physical and emotional disability, deterioration of academic performances, aggressive behavior that causes a number of other sociological problems in families and among friends. It is also the primary cause of criminal behavior and a leading cause of broken marriages. As we know it's a broad topic therefore I'll look at the role that alcohol plays in the society and it's impact on teenage addiction.

The age when young people are taking their first drink is becoming lower each year. Many studies show that preteens are experimenting with alcohol and many are already heavy drinkers . It may be difficult for parents and teachers to believe that a seventh grade student can have an alcohol problem, but a study of student drinking practices shows that 5% of seventh-grade boys and 4.4% of seventh-grade girls are seriously abusing alcohol . That's why we see the consequences in terms of antisocial behavior, school failure, attention deficit, learning disabilities and road accidents among the teenagers.

DRUGS

Today in America a lot of young people experiment with illegal drugs. Some people try drugs for recreational purposes, others are addicted to drugs and can’t survive without them. Usually it all starts from recreational purposes, and people who can not control their recreation become a drug addicts. There are many different types of drugs, but all drugs are similar in that they change one’s understanding of the environment, feelings, senses and mood. Some drugs cause physical addiction, which means that after several tries of the particular drug, the body requires that chemical in order to function. Some drugs destroy lives; people use drugs so much that it changes their personality and acceptance of environment, people become happy and sad, active and weak under influence of drugs. It makes their mind and body sick. Heavy drug users do not live long, dying either from health complications or dying on the streets, or if they get lucky they go to jail

Healthy Eating Healthy eating is not only important for your diet, it's also important as a part of your personal well-being. Eating healthy can drastically improve your physical fitness, allow you to feel better about yourself, and do wonders for you health. Healthy eating doesn't mean you have to follow a strict diet, or give up foods you love. You just need to balance the amount of types of foods you eat to obtain all the necessary nutrients. It's a good idea to limit the fattening foods such as fast food, pizzas, etc... but you don't necessarily have to completely avoid them. Starting healthy eating habits at a young age will possibly help people as they get older. Learning about the importance of proper nutrition at a young age will help to establish lifelong healthy eating habits and will improve the health of children.

organised and controlled, how people are employed, managed and paid, how
goods are developed, produced and sold, how goods and services are
priced and how the local, national and international government help or

In studying the setting up of a business there are many aspects that
need to be considered. Such as the type of business ownerships which
are suitable for the entrepreneur, where the capital will be coming
from, what goods or services could be considered to sell and where the
business should be located. The extensive amount of research, which is
carried out before the business operates, is also studied.

There are many sources of finance open to the entrepreneur, which also
need to be studied . The business owner has to set the right
price for its goods or services - a price which is of convenience to the
consumer and which is affordable for the owner.

television has many positive and informational uses. Television is now being

Television has always been good for spreading the news of current world
events but it is now being used for more educational and informational
documentaries. Television is becoming more and more an educational essential
for children. Before they start school, children learn many basic and
fundamental tools from television. Most kids learn the alphabet and how to
count from shows.

In my opinion there are many positive things associated with television
but you can get too much of a good thing. A very important thing to remember is
to watch television in moderation, when used correctly television can be a very
useful tool.

People prefer walking or biking across the Brooklyn Bridge rather than driving. Walkers and bikers use the same walkway in the center of the bridge. The bridge is usually full of activity, ranging from Brooklyn Heights yuppies going to or from work on Wall Street, to runners and joggers, to out-of-towners coming to the famous bridge for the view. Looking north from the bridge you can see midtown Manhattan in the distance, as well as the Empire State building . You will also be able see the Statue of Liberty and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

Plaques on the far corners of these planks, however, offer an interesting twist: as you walk toward Brooklyn , you can read a short history of Brooklyn before you actually enter the borough. These plaques also point out the sights in Brooklyn seen from the bridge.

A good place to take nice photos is from Brooklyn Bridge. Whilst walking over the bridge, you get great views of the Manhattan Skyline, and also the lower Manhattan Skyline. Take the Subway to to Brooklyn Bridge, and then from the Eastern Side of the City Hall is where the walkway starts, the views are great. Then if you are walking over the bridge to booklyn, you will get to a part where there is a split in the road, go left and downstairs, you will cross under a bridge. Cross the intersection and walk in the direction of the water, you will reach a walkway where you can also take nice pictures of the skyline. Many people in the streets walking to their work, to go shopping, to go to show... They walk a lot, so they can enjoy the great architecture of this city.

Before and after the 1900’s New York City was considered the “center of everything” finance, population, construction and good manufacturing . Among many other things, all had been formed in New York City.

The Brooklyn Bridge was part of that New York. The Brooklyn Bridge is one of New York most famous landmarks. This bridge took a lot of hard work and effort from many different people. John Roebling went to great lengths to build this bridge. From 1870 to 1883, the bridge was a pioneering example of steel-wire support cables which gave the illusion of a spider web. The elegant high arches of the stone towers, the graceful swoop of the main cables, and the pattern created by the suspender cables and diagonal stays made the bridge very lovely. Roebling wanted to accommodate to all when building this bridge. He made it so that people can walk, ride their bikes, and at the time horse and buggies can cross the bridge as well.

The Brooklyn Bridge contributes a lot to the economics of the country, and also created a system of transportation between Brooklyn and Manhattan. Located between the boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan, the bridge was completed on May 24, 1883, 2:00 PM. On the time of completion the bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world.

good friend

A friend, what really is a friend, a real true friend? As you take that long journey through life you will never be alone. A friend will always be there if you need her. A friend never turns her back on you when you need her. The one true friend you meet along the way will never give up on your friendship no matter what.

As you go through life many different people will come and go, only a few will grasp on a piece of your heart forever. I believe that these are the people that make you the person you are. A good friend is hard to find so once she grasps on do not ever let her go.

The Loss of a Family Member

It was a time for me when life was like one of those T.V. shows that have perfect families and nothing bad ever happens. I liked it that way so when my father came home with a sad look on his face I have to say it scared me more then a little bit but I had no idea that the news he would present would change my life forever.

My mom came out of her room and my dad called us to him. He started to say that something bad happened but he stopped because he was getting choked up. He finally came out and said that my uncle had died. My heart jumped to my throat and stayed there I felt like I couldn’t breathe, at that point I didn’t think about anything I was completely thoughtless and speechless I couldn’t believe that my only uncle that I ever had passed on and I would never see him again, That was the worst thing in my life .

DIVORCE

From the past to the present, people choose to live together, this is called marriage. Some couples are unable to maintain their relationships, so they divorce. Divorce is one of the solutions to cope with problems between husband and wife. There are three main causes for divorce; the changing of women’s roles, stress in modern living and the lack of communication.

The first cause of the recent rise in the rates of divorce is that women are changing their roles. In the past, men had to earn the money to pay the family expenses, when the women only did the housework. These situations have changed the roles of men and women are becoming equal. Now, women can work and men can stay at home and do the housework.

Another cause for the recent rise in divorce rates is stress in living situations. Many people have considerable pressures to earn money. It can be seen that the stress occurs when a couple has children, for instance, making the money to pay for the children to go to college. This is why it is possible that stress may lead to high divorce rates.

In conclusion, a family is one of the most important parts of society, and many people need to be aware of the significance of a relationship. Divorce has become a substantial problem because of changing women’s roles, stress in living situations, and the overwhelming lack of communication. Some couples who have no children, divorce may be a good solution to deal with these problems. Although people tend to think carefully before the get married, the rates of divorce continuously rise nowadays

HOME

A sweet home needs a good society. A house is made of mud and bricks but home is made of love. In some places houses are made for the people but somewhere people are made for the houses. In a hotel people don't know who's living next to the door but in home people know their neighbors. A welcoming home is a perfect home. A home is made of love, sorrow, laughter, excitement, hope, care, atmosphere and feelings of everyone. In homes we laugh, in homes we cry, and born in homes and in homes we die. A home reflects our personality. When a guest enters in the house he comes to know what sort of person you're by just looking the way you've decorated your house. A home is a place where the diseased world dies on. The doors are made with steps of patience and hospitality. My doors are not made by wood but they're made by the sweet smiles which always welcome others. A home is a blessing in disguise and it's the hope for tomorrow. It's a preparing ground for the future. A home is a mother's heaven, her kingdom. It's a desire of every girl.

Our country is also our home, so it's our duty that we always keep it clean. A house needs a discipline and everyone follows that. People in a home gather on special occasions and enjoy themselves, they tell their secrets to each other, they enjoy their great events by recalling them. A home reveals and also conceals.

In a home our values matter and the wishes are fulfilled by our parents. A home is a place to rest. To say the word home is quite easy but to maintain it is really difficult. There's no place except home which seems like heaven to us. That's what home all is about. When a girl grows up, she dreams of a perfect home and when she gets married, she tries her level best to give her dream a true face.

Memories are a part of life. We use our memory function to recall the memories we once had. Memory is a vital part of the learning process. Without it, learning would be impossible. If your brain recorded nothing from the past, you would be unable to learn anything new. All your experiences would be lost as soon as they ended, and each new situation would be totally unfamiliar.If memories helped people in their effort to learn from their past, it would really have to depend on the individual. Every person is different, so therefore, their memories are going to be different also. Memory is the mental system for receiving, encoding, storing, organizing, altering, and retrieving information.

If a person has a lot of good memories, they will most likely be able to learn from their past and succeed in the future, because they have a lot to look forward to. If he or she had a good childhood and he or she has children, he or she will try to make their children have a childhood like theirs. With all good memories there are always bad ones. For example, the death of a parent. For some children it is very hard for them to understand. Everyone goes through it so you learn to cope with the loss, but losing someone so close to you will take a lot of time to heal.


People have good and bad memories; the good memories are the ones that you can think about and laugh about and just feel good about, while the bad memories are the ones that you learn from and try to make good. As life goes on, you will forget the little things that you used to remember so clearly, until you cannot remember much of the event at all. Only the memories that have affected your life and are really close to your heart will live on forever. Memories are a learning device that you use to learn from the past and succeed in the future.

Computer Hobby

A Hobby That I Enjoy My favorite past time is
to spend time at the computer, even at a tender age I like computer
systems. To having a computer was a dream, an almost impossible dream. I
had a friend named George at that time, we were in the same school, same
grade and we had a very good relationship. At that time he had a computer
system and we spend our free time playing games, printing greeting cards,
banners, we also did our school home work. It was very nice and playful
even then I yearned to own my own computer, so I could spend more time
learning how to use the computer. But I liked to have my own computer so I
can do my own printings and spend more time learning how to use the
computer. One day my parents went for a trip without me because I was in
school at that time; so I stay with my grandmother for about five days
until my parents got back from their trip. When my folks return home they
arrived with a big box with no labels or printings on the outside of the
box. My parents always knew that I wanted a computer. I didn't know what
was inside of the big brown box until the next day when I saw the computer
on my homework table. It was the best day of my life, for that day my
dream became reality.

Now my favorite hobby is computers systems. I have the latest computer and I like to spend a lot time making graphics programs,I like to write my essays on my computer because I have more fun, my mind is more relaxed and I thing better as oppose to writing with pen.
I believe that the computer became a part of everyday life, in schools, jobs, and even
in leisure activities

For me having a hobby is very important it is not only interesting but it opens
doors now and in the future. My hobby has lead to a promising career in a
fast growing, high demanding and very rewarding field.
